NACDL - News Release ~ 04/20/2015.

“I am thankful, after so long, the truth has finally come forth about the injustice suffered by me, my family and the families of the victims. I hope these revelations can free other innocent persons robbed of their lives by these criminal actions committed by those entrusted to secure justice. This should be a wakeup call, especially in light of the recent murders of African Americans, at the hands of the same types of corrupt law enforcement persons who have been responsible for what we experienced decades ago. I sincerely hope that these correct actions by justice department officials, to come forth with the truth, can finally bring closure and right this terrible wrong.”

May 23, 2014: The Committee to Free Wayne Williams attended Justice Has No Statute of Limitations, Attorney Alton Maddox Tribute at Hagar’s Palace in Atlanta, GA. Invited guest speakers included Attorney Lynn Whatley, Cynthia McKinney, Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Dick Gregory, Tawana Brawley, Alton Maddox and several more. The event was hosted by Wanique Shabazz of WRFG and Nicole English of HESAIDSHESAIDRADIO. Wayne Williams, himself, expressed his gratitude to WRFG the following day and thanked them for their continued support in his case and for speaking out on the facts surrounding the case. Friday night’s audience was very receptive of Shabazz’s and Whatley’s presentation of the Missing and Murdered Case. Bringing awareness and attention back to this horrific time in Atlanta’s history continues to be the focus in the Wayne Williams Freedom Project. It is always our hope and prayer that Wayne Williams walks out of prison a free man and that the families of the victims receive justice for their children. “Justice has no statute of limitation” and we are working tirelessly with all parties involved.

May 10, 2014: The Committee to Free Wayne Williams met with Brenda Muhammad and several family members of the murdered children of ’79-’81. Brenda Muhammad spoke with all of us regarding her plans to support our efforts in furthering our investigation of the crimes committed. Ms. Muhammad is running for the District 5 seat on the Fulton County Commission and we support her continued efforts as Executive Director of the Atlanta Victim Assistance program and her support of policies addressing mental health, parental engagement, and preventive juvenile programs that intercede before children get into trouble. Ms. Muhammad was gracious enough to meet with all of us for about 2 hours at her campaign office. We look forward to a continued relationship with her in our efforts to free Wayne Williams and bring closure to the families of the missing and murdered children.

April 26, 2014: The Committee to Free Wayne Williams met with cold case investigator, John A. Cameron, author of It’s Me: Edward Wayne Edwards | The Serial Killer You Never Heard Of. Deceased Edward Wayne Edwards is one of several key suspects in the Atlanta Missing and Murdered Case of ’79-’81. Mr. Cameron spent two hours with The Committee to Free Wayne Williams, narrating the details of his findings on Edward Wayne Edward and answering questions. Please visit Mr. Cameron’s website at www.coldcasecameron.com for more details.

March, 2014: The Committee to Free Wayne Williams is working with the parents to get a better understanding of what happened during the investigations of their children’s cases. ** Wayne Williams was NOT convicted on any of the child murders. He was convicted on two adult murders, Jimmy R. Payne and Nathaniel Cater.

March 18, 2014: Representative Keisha Waites joined the City of Atlanta and Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, located at 1935 Henry Thomas Drive, Atlanta, GA 30315, in hosting the 2nd Annual Memorial Celebration to honor and salute the 28 children that were lost and their families. Each family was presented with a framed copy of House Resolution 1054, which reflects the names of all 28 children. In addition, Rep. Waites seeks to partner with the local business community to locate a prominent site to erect a memorial displaying the names of each of the victims, and to plant a tree for each child lost. Many other cities have monuments dedicated to victims of violent acts, but there is no similar site in Atlanta for these victims.
